The “Old Heathen” rental hut offers modest accommodation for unpretentious wanderers. From the hut it is possible to study the attractions of the vicinity on the nearby Vanapagana study trail. If you have more time, you may also go to Metsavenna campfire site, which gives an overview of the life of the Forest Brothers, the partisans in the 1940s-50s. The Saarjõgi River study trail, starting at the campfire site, offers an opportunity for a longer hike.

The hut sleeps 9 people. Pet – 5€ per night.

Please bring your own sleeping equipment, dishes, drinking water, safe candles.

There are tables, benches, a fireplace and cooking stove with minimum kitchenware. No electricity in the hut. Water both for drinking and other uses needs to be taken along. Outside there is an outdoor fireplace and dry toilet.

Sights:

This was the home of the main character Põrgupõhja Jürka in the 1964 Estonian film "Põrgupõhja uus vanapagan". Photo exhibition of making the film is displayed upstairs.

Winter accessibility:

The parking area and access roads are maintained. Firewood is available at the campfire site.
NB! In winter when the outside temperature falls below -10°C, it is cold in the hut despite heating. This is why overnight stay in the hut in winter is recommended only with proper winter sleeping equipment!

Driving directions:

On Imavere–Viljandi road, 31 km from Imavere, turn towards Vändra and drive 11.3 km to the sign “Jälevere 4 km”. Drive 9 km right through Jälevere to the centre of Tõrvaaugu village, where the sign “Türi 23 km” directs to the left. Drive 1 km towards Türi, to the sign on the left “Vanapagana metsamaja 0,6 km”. Follow the sign for about 0.5 km and turn right. Drive 100 m to the road barrier. The barrier is opened only to customers who have booked the hut. When approaching from the direction of Türi, follow the sign “Rassi 19 km”. From the Rassi bus stop drive 1.8 km and turn right, following the sign “Vanapagana metsamaja”. Drive 0.6 km.

Additional information:

Tent camping (max 20 person) is allowed only for booked guests of the rental hut, price 5 € per person.

RMK rental huts are locked cottages mainly for the hikers who plan their hike more thoroughly. A rental hut provides the privacy for the user and therefore a “key fee” must be paid.

As a user of Forest House you should know the following:

1) The Forest House is open only at pre-booked times
2) The estimated time of use is from 14.00 to 12.00 the following day
3) The number of users of the house is 9 people due to fire safety requirements
4) Persons under the age of 18 are allowed to book and use the rental hut only together with an adult.
5) The user must leave the equipment and the house clean when they leave
6) The user returns the key to the caretaker of the house at the agreed time

Cancel booking

If the User cancels the Booking Agreement 14 or more days prior to the start of the booking period, the User will receive a booking fee refund, of which a service fee has been deducted (2 euro).

If the User cancels the Booking Agreement less than 13 days, but up to 73 hours prior to the start of the booking period, the User will receive a refund of 75% of the booking fee.

If the User cancels the Booking Agreement less than 72 hours prior to the start of the booking period, the booking fee will not be refunded.

The booking period starts at 12:00 on the first day of the booking.

In order to cancel the Booking Agreement, the User is obliged to notify the Service Provider of the cancellation immediately via e-mail: broneering@nordicrent.ee.

If the Booking Agreement is cancelled prior to the start of the Booking Period in the event of illness, accident or death of the User or a person close to them, the User has the right to receive a full refund of the booking fee. In this case, the User is obliged to immediately notify the Service Provider via e-mail: broneering@nordicrent.ee. The User has two weeks to present the Service Provider with a certificate (doctor’s, police or other) confirming the reason for cancelling the Booking Agreement. If the booking is cancelled for the aforementioned reasons during the booking period, the booking fee will not be refunded.

The Owner has the right to cancel the Booking Agreement in case of force majeure (natural disasters, risk of a forest fire, strikes or other). In that case, the Owner will inform the User as quickly as possible. In case of termination of the Booking Agreement by the Owner in the event of a force majeure, the User only has the right to receive a full refund of the booking fee deposited at the Service Provider. Other expenses made by the User are not refunded.
